MAKING A SONG VS A BEAT | Illmind BLAP:CAM 058

I recently met with a group of aspiring music producers at an NYC studio, gave feedback on their music and answered a lot of great questions. The number one reason why people aren't getting placements is the simple fact that they're over producing and doing too much. That's the difference between a music producer and a beatmaker. It's having the right discipline to know what to leave in and what to take out to make room for the artist.

DON'T BE AFRAID OF REJECTION | Illmind BLAP:CAM 057

I recently went on IG live and answered many of your questions. We discussed how to set up your laptop for music production, what I like to store on my internal and external hard drive. What inspires me and what keeps me going. The importance of referencing your mixes. How self-help books, although they seem unrelated, can actually guide you in the music industry. And I give advice to a recent graduate on what steps to take next. The biggest thing is to put yourself out there and not be afraid of rejection.

GET YOUR FOOT IN THE DOOR + MOTIVATE! | Illmind BLAP:CAM 053

Last week, I tweeted a secret location in Brooklyn, NY to come meet me. We chose 70 random fans to come hang out and record on my podcast "BlapChat". We answered questions and had an amazing time! Some things we talked about were: getting your first "major label" placement and how to take advantage of getting your foot in the door to maximize more opportunities + how to deal with being mis-credited on a project + how to effectively motivate the people around you + the idea of "respect" going a long way.
